Mummers’ Play

We hope to have Prize Old Mummers from Portsmouth attending the Green Man Fest again to perform their short Mummers’ Play around the town. Mummers’ plays are traditional folk plays that can be traced back to at least 1296. They have some comic content but like Jack in the Green their underlying story is about Summer’s triumph over Winter. The plays now have lots of modern/local variations. See them at:

10.30am Lamb Yard

11.30am in The Three Horseshoes: All you need to know about the Horseshoes is – “Brilliant pub, great music, great welcome, great atmosphere, great beer”.

12.30pm in the Artisan Market – St Margarets’ Hall car park.

1.30pm in Westbury Gardens underneath the big riverside tree.

2.30pm in Lamb Yard.

3.30pm in the Tithebarn Workshops courtyard in front of Jill in the Green’s secret bower. Check out the wealth of beautiful local crafts and a tea room.
