It was a huge disappointment to announce in 2025 that the GMF could not continue as organising it had become an overwhelming burden. We’ve been flooded by requests to keep it alive so we decided to try bring back a small event in 2026 but even that has proved too much. As soon as it becomes an “Event”, to which we invite people, bureaucracy kicks in. We’ll have to produce an Event Management Plan for local councils and the emergency services with risk assessments, plans for safeguarding children and vulnerable adults, and an incident management plan. We have to recruit and train a team of volunteers to put those plans into action on the day. We have to pay to have a medical team, buy third party indemnity insurance…. It all runs away very quickly so even plans for a Little Green Man mini-festival were too onerous

To keep the spirit of the GMF alive there will be Morris dancing around town on Saturday 9th May 2026 starting at the Tithe Barn at 10am, programme here.
