We are sorry to announce that the BoA Green Man Festival is no more – the victim of its own success. In just eight years it grew to be the town’s biggest event, much loved and with a national reputation. With 1,000 performers, five music stages, 60 market traders and over 10,000 visitors, organising it became an almost year round task completely overwhelming the capacity of its two organisers and the helpers they recruited over the years. A long running campaign to set up an organising committee with the resources to secure the Green Man’s future has failed. There was a good response from people prepared to help on the day, but 6 out of 11 committee jobs remain vacant including some of the most demanding positions. All the jobs needed to start work in September and with no volunteers in sight we don’t have the capacity to arrange a safe and successful event. We know how much people love the Green Man but without all the bases covered it’s impossible to carry on. We want to thank all the performers, traders and volunteers who’ve made the festival such a success. Most importantly, a huge thank you to all the smiling, happy visitors who gave the day such a wonderful vibe. Jack in the Green and his partner Jill will slumber on in their hidden corner of the Tithe Barn hoping one day to get a call to reawaken and bring sunshine, happiness and whimsy back into our lives.
