Mummers’ Plays

A traditional broadly comic folk play that can be traced back at least to 1296 usually performed at Christmas and Plough Monday. The plays have lots of modern/local variations and audience participation but the standard core involves number of characters, including St George, who are called on stage, two of whom engage in a combat, the loser being revived by a doctor character.
